Munich-style beer hall brand Bierschenke has acquired the former Belgo Centraal site in Covent Garden for its next London location with a view to opening in the spring.

Housed within a Victorian Grade II-listed building, the 12,000sq ft site will feature vaulted brick ceilings and flagstone floors.

In a statement, the Biershenke team said: “This is one of London’s iconic locations and ideal fit for our highly rated and authentic Munich bierkeller experience in London.

“We cannot wait for the grand opening followed by our traditional Octoberfest in the autumn.”

The opening follows a period of extended hiatus in the capital for Bierschenke, which opened its first hall in London back in 2010 beneath Daly’s Wine Bar in Charing Cross before moving in 2015 to a larger 8,500ft space within the London Wall buildings by Liverpool Street station.

That site subsequently closed last year for refurbishment of the office and retail block in London Wall and is yet to reopen. However, the group has told BigHospitality it has an option to return to the Liverpool Street site once the refurbishment is complete.

Bierschenke also previously operated a site in Tower Hill, which opened in 2019, but subsequently closed quietly during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Licensed trade property agent Andrew Robinson of A3 A4 Licensed Property acquired the site for Biershenke and Alex Mann of Hanover Green Retail represented the landlords CBRE IM.
