Simon Shaw is to close the Leeds outpost of his tapas bar and restaurant brand El Gato Negro later this month ahead of relaunching the site under a new concept.

In a press statement it was confirmed that the Park Row restaurant, which opened in 2019, would permanently close its doors on Sunday 16 June.

On its final day of trading, the restaurant will be offering 50% off food as well as a free pint of Northern Monk for all ‘father figures’ in recognition of it being Father’s Day.

“As of June, we have made the decision to close the doors of El Gato Negro in Leeds, however we are delighted to reveal that it’s not the end, our Park Row venue promises an exciting new concept,” says Shaw.

“Throughout June, we will continue to serve up the tapas you know and love, so please pop in one final time, to share a few small plates with friends and celebrate with us, as we embark on our new journey.

“We would like to thank all of our guests. We look forward to welcoming you to our new exciting concept later this year.”

Shaw will continue to operate two El Gato Negro restaurants in Manchester and Liverpool under his company, Mills Hill Developments Limited.

He also owns Mediterranean tapas brand Canto and competitive socialising concept Black Cat Club under the same group, both of which have sites in Manchester.

It is not known at this point if the Leeds restaurant will relaunch as either Canto or Black Cat Club.
