Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG) has confirmed that its Restaurant Hub outlets inside Sainsbury’s stores will continue to operate after the supermarket giant announced plans to close its remaining in-store cafés.

The group confirmed that its multifaceted restaurant and takeaway concept, which serves grab-and-go and delivery options from BRG brands including Caffe Carluccio’s, GBK, Slim Chickens, Harry Ramsdens and Ed’s Easy Diner, remains a key part of Sainsbury’s in-store offering.

“Our collaboration with Sainsbury’s is stronger than ever, and we are delighted to continue our operations of The Restaurant Hub concept,” stated Satnam Leihal, CEO of BRG.

“Customers can still enjoy their favourite meals from our leading restaurant brands, whether they choose to dine in or take away.”

BRG launched The Restaurant Hub in July 2021 at Sainsbury’s Selly Oak and has since grown the brand to 21 sites, all located within Sainsbury’s supermarkets.

Sainsbury’s announced last week that it planned to shut its remaining 61 in-store cafés as part of a major restructure of the business designed to save £1bn over three years.

It comes almost three years after it shut 200 in-store cafes amid waning demand from shoppers.

BRG said The Restaurant Hub continues to perform well across all sites, reflecting ‘the strong demand for the convenience and variety it provides to customers’.
