It is one of two operating restaurants to have their stars deleted this year, the other being Kai in London’s Mayfair.
While City Social, which is located on the 24th floor of Tower 42 in the City of London, lost its star, Atherton’s new flagship venture Row on 5, which launched late last year, did receive its first star at last night’s (10 February) Michelin ceremony.
A total of eight restaurants have lost their star in the latest Guide, the majority as a result of having closed in the last year.
They include Atherton’s Pollen Street Social, which closed its doors later year after 13 years operating; Tom Brown’s Cornerstone in London’s Hackney; Purnell’s in Birmingham; and Norwich restaurant Store at Stoke Mill.
Notably, La Dame de Pic London, multi-Michelin starred French chef Anne-Sophie Pic’s London outpost, did not lose its two stars despite the restaurant recently announcing it would close this month.
All operating restaurants to lose their stars continue to be ‘recommended’ by the Guide.
Yesterday’s Michelin star revelation ceremony saw Mark Birchall’s Moor Hall in Lancashire become the 10th restaurant in the Great Britain & Ireland Guide to be awarded three stars.
A further three new two Michelin star restaurants were announced, alongside 22 new one star restaurants.
Additionally, five restaurants received a Michelin Green Star, which highlights those at the forefront of the industry when it comes to their sustainable practices.
