Pret A Manger will keep its Club Pret coffee subscription at £5 per month, rather than increasing it to £10 as previously planned.

In an email to its subscribers, it says that new and existing Club Pret members will continue to get 50% off up to five barista-made drinks a day for £5 a month. It reads: ‘At Pret, we believe in offering high-quality, organic coffee and Barista-made drinks at fantastic value. With Club Pret, you’ll continue to enjoy great savings on up to five Barista-made drinks per day’.

In July the coffee chain announced that it would be scrapping its existing Club Pret loyalty programme, which entitled members to up to five barista-prepared drinks per day as well as a 10% discount on everything else sold in Pret stores for £30 a month, in favour of the £5 a month discount model.

The price was due to rise to £10 a month from 1 April.

Under the current subscription model, Pret customers need only buy around three barista-made drinks before they make back the cost of the monthly membership.

Pret is one of a number of coffee chains that offer a subscription service. Last year Leon launched Roast Rewards, which it said was the UK’s cheapest high street coffee subscription, offering subscribers up to five barista-made drinks a day along with a 20% discount on its breakfast and all-day food menu for £25 a month.

At the end of last year, ‘fine fast food’ brand Yolk launched its own hot drinks subscription scheme that is tiered into three levels – BasicBrew, ClassicBrew and PremierBrew – rising from a free subscription to one that costs £40 a month.
