The chef’s Restaurant MS in Clifton Gardens, Folkestone, shut for the final time earlier this month, according to local newspaper KentOnline.
In an email sent to customers seen by the newspaper, the restaurant said: “It is with deep regret that we announce the closure of The Restaurant MS.
“This decision, made after careful consideration, has not been easy. However, the challenging market conditions and an unpredictable future have compelled us to take this step.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our valued customers, dedicated employees, and supportive suppliers for their unwavering support since our inception, as we could not have achieved this journey without each of you.”
The closure marks the end of a challenging period for Sargeant’s restaurant.
The Gordon Ramsay protégé initially opened the restaurant as The Brasserie MS in March 2022 when he took over Italian restaurant Tavernetta, which had been operating in the seaside town since 1965.
However, he closed the Art Deco-style restaurant just six months later following a difference of opinion with his backers over its future.
In August 2023 he confirmed that he would be reopening the restaurant under the new name Restaurant MS following ‘a few tweaks’ and continued to serve a menu of classic haute cuisine.
Then in November he shared images online of the reopened restaurant having been flooded.
The restaurant has received numerous positive reviews, with Sargeant recently taking to his personal Instagram account to post a number of five-star TripAdvisor reviews it had received.
The Brasserie MS’s website remains live but is no longer taking bookings and its Instagram account is no longer active.
Mark Sargeant has been contacted for comment.
