The Cinnamon Collection to make northern debut with Leeds restaurant

Chef Vivek Singh’s The Cinnamon Collection will bring its Cinnamon Kitchen restaurant to Leeds this May marking its debut in the North of England. The 105-cover restaurant and bar is launching in partnership with the Grade II listed The Queens Hotel in Leeds city centre. With an entrance on City Square, as well as via Leeds Station, the interiors by Studio Sorana will be inspired by the grand first-class train waiting rooms found in major stations in India in the 19th century. The menu has been designed to take diners on a culinary journey with dishes inspired by the 2,355-mile route of the Himsagar Express, spanning 12 of Indian’s states.

Dishes will include masala-grilled salmon; Old Delhi butter chicken and lamb rogan josh shepherd’s pie.

New menu items plates specifically designed for Leeds include seekh kebab in the hole; and a Yorkshire-style curd and cardamom tart.

A grand railway clock will dominate the Art Deco main dining room with the original high ceilings and decorative mouldings married with wood panelling and textures, including velvet and rattan.

A large-scale mural wallpaper mimics the Indian landscape as seen from a train whilst booths, complete with antique brass fittings, are reminiscent of luxury railway carriages.

The destination bar, accommodating up to 60, will put the spotlight on spice-infused craft cocktails alongside Asian beers, lassis and non-alcoholic coolers.

The Leeds restaurant will be the third restaurant Cinnamon Kitchen site and sixth overall joining The Cinnamon Club Westminster, Cinnamon Kitchen City, Cinnamon Kitchen Battersea, Cinnamon Bazaar Covent Garden and Cinnamon Bazaar Richmond.

The first Cinnamon Kitchen City was opened in 2008 as the more casual sister restaurant to Vivek Singh’s flagship Westminster restaurant, The Cinnamon Club.

The concept fuses ‘the spice of the subcontinent with the finest British ingredients and culinary traditions to create modern, vibrant Indian dishes’.

The Cinnamon Collection is part of Boparan Restaurant Group, which also owns Slim Chickens, Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Ed’s Easy Diner.
