The team behind highly-rated Islington pub The Baring will open a new pub in Camberwell this April.

Most recently known as The Crooked Well, the pub will be renovated and relaunched under its historic name, The Kerfield Arms.

The Baring founders will partner with chef Jay Styler (pictured middle), who has been part of the team at the Baring Street venue since launch and will lead The Kerfield both as head chef and as a partner in the business.

His menu will continue the team’s ethos of ‘simple-yet-considered’ cooking that promotes ‘humble ingredients and seasonal produce’.

Highlights from the opening menu include cuttlefish and lardo shish, pul biber chilli; fried pig’s head, smoked eel and warm tartare sauce; Yorkshire hogget, violet artichokes, bagna cauda and pine nuts; and Gariguette strawberry and chamomile custard doughnut.

The Kerfield Arms will offer some favourite dishes from The Baring and will also serve the same mid-week lunch menu which offers a weekly changing main dish for £12 or £15 with a pint or glass of wine.

There will be eight keg beers from local producers and a wine list that will champion small producers working naturally but whose wines are ‘clean and approachable’.

Located on Grove Lane, a quiet residential street just off Camberwell Church Street, The Kerfield Arms occupies a grand corner site with outdoor seating.

Inside, there’s a large bar area to accommodate drinkers and walk-in diners, as well as a relaxed dining room which is available to book for both lunch and dinner.

Upstairs, there’s a first-floor private dining room for up to 25 guests.

The stripped back interiors will share a similar aesthetic to The Baring.

Adam Symonds and chef Rob Tecwyn launched The Baring in the summer of 2022.

The pub has been positively reviewed by The Guardian’s Grace Dent and went straight into the UK’s Top 50 Gastropubs as the Highest New Entry in 2023.

It has since climbed to 17 in the latest list.
