Fork restaurant in the Sussex town of Lewes has announced its closure four years after opening.

The restaurant was opened in June 2021 Stephen Yeomans and was led by head-chef and co-owner Richard Falk, who had previously worked at The Ledbury in Notting Hill and as head chef at The Dairy in Clapham.

Making the announcement on their website, the restaurant says that its last day of business will be on Sunday 30 March.

“It is with much regret that after four years of operations, we share the sad news of the closing of Fork,” it says.

“We would like to thank you for your custom and loyalty over the past four years. From Jack, Philippe and the team - you all made Fork so special to us and we will miss you all!”

In January Yeomans sold the restaurant.

Speaking to the Argus newspaper, front of house manager Philippe Alvarez said: “The new owners want to set up a fast-food restaurant. High quality food requires more staff, and fewer staff would be required for fast food.

“Ahead of the increase of wages in April, the new owners have decided to cut their losses.

“We have just managed to break even so with the wage increase it would not be possible to make a profit.”

Located close to Lewes station in a Grade II listed building, Fork describes itself as a modern interpretation of a traditional neighbourhood restaurant serving a modern British menu that’s ‘innovative yet accessible’.
