Adam Handling is to open a chocolate shop round the corner from his The Frog restaurant in London’s Covent Garden this week.

The chef and restaurateur will launch the Adam Handling Chocolate Shop tomorrow (26 March) at 10am on Maiden Lane.

Cocoa beans from countries including India, Peru and Madagascar will be used to make the chocolate, which will be produced in store.

The shop will also work with producers such as XOCO Gourmet, the world’s first chocolate producer to develop and cultivate its own single variety cacao.

Announcing the launch, Handling said: “The cultivation of cacao tells a powerful story.

“Similarly to coffee, every cocoa bean has different expressions, based on its locality.

“In the UK, it’s common to think that chocolate tastes the same - that generic word, ‘chocolate’. But gone are those days.

“My vision is to create the purest expression of perfection, utilising sustainable chocolates that really showcase the essence of that fruit.

“The flavour of these chocolates is representative of the soil, the air and the hands that nurtured them.

“So, it’s easy for us to create stunning, hand painted chocolates in Britain, as we already have the foundations of excellence to play with.”

As well as hand-painted chocolates, customers will be able to buy foraged caramel bars, freshly baked cookies and brownies, Florentines, pastries, chocolate nut spreads, chocolate buttons, and dipped fruits and nuts

There will also be a dedicated hot chocolate corner with 12 varieties of hot chocolate.

The retail products will also soon be available for purchasing on the Adam Handling Collection’s separate online shop, for UK-wide delivery.

Handling revealed he was preparing to launch a new project in London last month, saying it would be ‘the most exciting venue’ he’s ever done.

Confirming the opening on Instagram last night, he said: “To be able to do this is like a kid in a candy shop. Literally that phrase was created just for me.”

The Adam Handling Collection also includes Eve Bar in Covent Garden; Ugly Butterfly in St Ives, Cornwall; The Loch & the Tyne in Old Windsor; and The Tartan Fox in Newquay.
