According to a Statement of Affairs filed to Companies House for RKB Ventures Ltd, the restaurant, which was launched by Giggs and his school friends – solicitor Kelvin Gregory and restaurateur Bernie Taylor – in 2014, owes £39,986 to its 22 employees.
A further £17,424 is owed to HMRC in PAYE payments.
George’s Dining Room and Bar closed suddenly in early January. Texts sent to staff at the time, which were seen by Manchester Evening News, blamed the closure on a ‘reduction in trade’ and ‘huge increases in costs of operating’.
Giggs himself is owned nearly £100,000 (£99,925) according to the Statement of Affairs, with Gregory and Taylor owned £53,254 and £12,950 respectively.
Spread over two floors, George’s Dining Room and Bar held 130 covers and served a menu with a ‘modern British focus’.
As reported by Manchester Evening News, the Barton Road site has now been taken over by new owners and will be reopening this week as Mediterranean-themed restaurant NYX.
Ahead of its opening, the site has been completely revamped with a new look.
