The Spitalfields restaurant, run by Andy Oliver and Mark Dobbie, will remain closed for the end of this week at least following the fire.
Announcing the closure on Instagram on Monday (4 June), the restaurant said the source of the fire was the kitchen extraction system, which has caused ‘significant damage’ to the restaurant.
In the post it says: “[the fire] got bad quickly, and we had to evacuate. All the team are safe and well, but we have significant damage to repair and a large clean-up to do.
“We don’t yet know when we can reopen, but it won’t be this week.”
The restaurant also praised the London Fire Brigade, which it says were on the scene just three minutes after being alerted.
The duo’s sister restaurant Kolae, located in Borough Market, is open as usual.
Earlier this year Chiltern Firehouse was also forced to close following a fire, the source of which was later traced to wood falling from a pizza oven.
