Located within a Grade-II site on Cavendish Square that was previously home to a NatWest bank, Aki London will be the group’s first site in the UK and follows the success of the original Aki which opened in the Maltese capital Valetta in 2020.
The group says the venture will serve modern takes on classic Japanese cuisine with a focus on freshly sourced, quality ingredients.
Menu details are limited, with Aki London set to offer items including sushi, robata and kushiyaki dishes.
The cocktail menu will include the Rising Sun (L’Arbre gin, yuzushu, white vermouth, honey, green tea ice cube and green tea air foam).
The building has undergone a 15 million pound renovation over the past two years.
Its banking hall has been turned into a 80-cover main dining room while its vaults now house a destination bar.
The mezzanine level, meanwhile, features an undercover terrace and private dining space.
Aki London’s interiors have been designed by UK-designer Francis Sultana, who is of Maltese descent.
“We’re proud to mark the roll-out of the Aki brand, globally with our opening in London — a leading culinary capital of the world. Aki represents our commitment to excellence, innovation, and the art of Japanese cuisine. This launch is a milestone for Lifestyle Group as we bring many refined dining experiences to one of the most dynamic food scenes on the planet,” says db Group CEO Robert Debono.
The company’s portfolio includes 11 restaurants - as well as Aki brands include Amami and Tora - and three hotels.
It also operates a number of international brands in Malta under a franchise agreement including Hard Rock Cafe and Starbucks.
