Hackney restaurant Lardo will open a wine bar next door called Bastardo next month.

Located next door to the 14-year-old restaurant, Bastardo will specialising in low-intervention wines and bar snacks and will carry a changing list of 70 wines with 20 available by the glass. The European focused offer will feature wines from Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, and England.

Bastardo will also serve a selection of drink-friendly snacks such as smoked almonds and olives alongside bigger dishes such as stracciatella with anchovies on toast; and pizza fritti.

There will also be ‘trough plates’ of pasta available for two to six people to share.

“Lardo started life with a mission to serve the neighbourhood and this place is in my DNA,” says owner Nathan Woodhead.

“We are now entering our teenage years and many of our original customers have grown up in their style of drinking – so we’ve opened Bastardo because a lot of those customers are now also thirsty for somewhere good to drink that isn’t too far away.

“But Bastardo also gives us a chance to establish ourselves on the wider London wine map now too.”

Bastardo opens on 5 June.
