The UK arm of US burger brand Shake Shack has moved into profit for the year ending 31 December 2024.

Diverse Dining, the UK operator of Shake Shack, reported a pre-tax profit of £1.06m, compared to a £764,000 loss the previous year.

Turnover at the burger chain also rose, up from £49m to £51.5m. Gross profit margin improved from 68.1% to 69.4%, and adjusted operating profit before interest, depreciation and tax increased from £0.5m to £3.5m, according to accounts filed at Companies House.

Shake Shack opened two restaurants during the period, in London St Pancras and Birmingham Grand Central, and says in its accounts that at least three more restaurants are expected to open in 2025.

In its strategic report Diverse Dining says ‘market uncertainty presents both challenges and opportunities’ and that it was ‘well positioned to enhance resilience and drive growth in the competitive QSR market’.

There are currently 17 Shake Shacks operating in the UK - including 11 in London and others in locations such as Birmingham, Cardiff, Oxford and Cambridge.

Shake Shack was founded by New York restaurateur Danny Meyer in 2001 and now has a presence in around 20 countries. It entered the UK market in 2013 with a site in Covent Garden.
