Smash burger slinger and social media sensation Supernova has launched a second, larger London location that, unlike its original Soho site, features indoor seating.

The group has opened on the former Big Fernand restaurant on Thurloe Place in South Kensington.

As with the Soho site, which launched in September 2023 and gained viral popularity on social media, the new restaurant features a tight menu of US-style smash burgers served alongside fries and a range of shakes and soft drinks.

It is the first of at least two Supernova openings planned for this summer in the capital.

As reported back in April, the group has taken over a 2,971sq ft site on North Audley Street in Mayfair for a launch expected in the coming weeks.

Alongside this, Supernova, which is owned and operated by BVC Hospitality, has also recently made its first strides internationally, opening a site within the Al Liwan shopping centre in Hamala, Bahrain.

Supernova is one of a number of new smash burger brands that have come to dominate the UK burger market.

More recent entries include Paris brand Dumbo, which made its debut in Shoreditch in June.

Founded in 2019 by Charles Ganem and Samuel Nataf, Dumbo claims to have pioneered the smash burger in Europe.

There is also Junk, another Parisian import, which launched in Soho last October and is preparing to open a second site in Marylebone.
