The charity offers a simple way for hospitality venues to make a tangible difference adding a voluntary £1 per table to diners’ bills during November and December. Money raised helps fund vital frontline services tackling homelessness across the UK.
StreetSmart was launched 27 years ago with dining institutions St John, The River Café and OXO Tower leading the way. Over time the campaign has grown with now more than 600 participating restaurants in 22 cities taking part and raising around £1m each year and more than £15m since its launch.
Supporters include restaurant groups such as Burger & Lobster, Lina Stores, Barrafina Group, and Mildreds and chefs Hélène Darroze and Jackson Boxer.
StreetSmart is fully supported by LandAid, the property industry working to end youth homelessness. LandAid’s partnership ensures that 100% of donations go directly to local charities, with no deductions.
The charity says that there are more than 4,600 people sleeping rough on England’s streets and more than 123,000 households living in temporary accommodation.
