Cafe Kowloon will be located behind Wonton Charlie’s, the 18-seat wonton noodle soup bar, which was announced last month.
The restaurant takes its name from one of Hong Kong’s most diverse and exciting districts.
A launch menu has yet to be released, but the restaurant will be inspired “by the way modern Hong Kong likes to eat and drink” where global influences meet traditional Cantonese dishes and are given “a contemporary spin”.
Taking inspiration from everything from dai pai dong street food vendors to dim sum houses, world-class cocktail spots and restaurants that are renowned for a single dish, the menu will “celebrate the city’s eclectic and evolving culinary scene”.
Wonton Charlie’s is part of hospitality group 6 of 1, which also operates Mr Bao in Peckham, Daddy Bao and Good Measure in Tooting, and Master Bao in Westfield London.
“This opening has been a long time in the making, so it’s very exciting to finally see all the site hunting, research, and development come to life,” the pair say. “We’re especially thrilled to be joining such a vibrant neighbourhood — surrounded by some amazing hospitality spots — and we hope to become a meaningful part of the local community.
“This marks a big step in the journey for 6 of 1: a new site, a new corner of London, and our first move beyond Taiwanese food. It’s a project fuelled by real passion from the whole team, and we can’t wait to open the doors. As always, our focus is on building a team, a menu and a space that allows people to relax and have fun. Delivering exceptional hospitality is what drives us and we’re excited to bring that spirit to this new space.”
