Martin Kuczmarski is opening a sister restaurant to Mayfair restaurant The Dover on the same street.

Dover Street Counter will open next month a few doors down from Kuczmarski’s debut restaurant at 31 Dover Street and will be ‘more playful’ and have a ‘rebellious energy’ according to the restaurateur.

Inspired by counter style dining in late 1950s Los Angeles, Dover Street Counter will globally inspired dishes that will include disco fries; buttermilk fried chicken; and chop-chop Mediterranean salad, sandwiches, alongside larger plates such as grilled half-lobster; beef ribeye tagliata; and cajun baby chicken.

The drinks list is described as ‘kitsch-but-chic’ and will cover classic cocktails as well as an extensive section of margaritas - from pineapple-Tajín and a vodka-based vodkarita, Tommy’s and spicy.

Designed by Studio Drago, the restaurant will have a stainless steel bar and kitchen counter as its central point as well as glossy black lacquer parquet floors and walnut boiserie panelling. It has been designed to have an ‘approachable daylight vibe’ with a ‘naughty’ after-dark edge, with an 90s R&B and soul soundtrack played throughout the day into the evening.

Dover Street Counter is the second project announced by Kuczmarski this week, who has also just opened Martino’s all-day restaurant in Chelsea.

The Dover launched early last year and has won acclaim for its Italian American food and stylish decor.
