Modern Mexican restaurant group Madre is heading to Leeds for two new openings in the coming months.

The group will open tequila bar, taqueria, and pool hall Salon Madre in the city next month, which will be followed by the opening of Mexican restaurant Madre close by in the new year.

Madre will be a 100-cover restaurant serving a menu of Oaxacan-inspired moles and salsas, Baja-style mariscos and Sonoran grilled meats.

Salon Madre will be its louder, more brash sibling with DJs, pool tables, and Lucha Libre on the big screens. Here tequila and mezcal will feature heavily, with a drinks list of frozen, classic, and flavoured margaritas and palomas.

It will also serve a more pared-back Mexican offer designed for sharing that will include al pastor tacos, gringas, burritos, and street food favourites picked up on the team’s travels.

The new openings mark the brand’s expansion into a third city, adding to its existing locations in Manchester and Liverpool. Founders Sam Grainger, Owain Williams, Chris Edwards, Nud Dudhia, and Chris Whitney (pictured) are also respectively behind venues such as Belzan, Doug’s, Winsome, Ambers, Sister Ray, and Breddos.

“Mexico is alive with passionate artisans and cooks, mastering everything from street tacos to regional delicacies,” says Grainger.

“It’s a world where traditions blend and evolve, and we’ve built that ethos into the heart of both Madre and Salon Madre.”

The group opened their first Madre in Liverpool in 2019, following it up with a site in Manchester.

The first Salon Madre opened in Manchester in December last year, and this was followed by a second Salon Madre, which has just opened in Liverpool.

Salon Madre will open to the public on 5 December. Madre will open in early 2026.
