Alfred Works, the forthcoming Birmingham food hall from hospitality group Blend Family, has revealed the first operators set to open at the reimagined Custard Factory site.

Mexican American fusion street food brand Fuego 1987 (pictured above) will join the lineup alongside Baity, which will bring Palestinian flavours to the hall, including salads, flatbreads and falafel.

Also confirmed is House of Habesha, serving Eritrean and Ethiopian dishes such as slow-cooked stews and traditional flatbreads.

All three food partners will be making their Birmingham debut at Alfred Works, which is set to open later this year.

Located in Digbeth, Alfred Works is named after custard powder inventor Alfred Bird and will span more than 17,500 sq ft of indoor space.

The site will feature 15 kitchens, an outdoor courtyard, social gaming, family-friendly areas and an additional large-scale events space across the River Rea.

More food partners will be announced in the coming weeks, with the full lineup set to reflect Blend Family’s “commitment to independent operators and global flavours”.

Alongside its food offering, Alfred Works will also be home to Blend Family’s second Blend Culinary Foundation Kitchen, continuing the group’s mission to tackle food poverty and support access to food education.

“We want Alfred Works to introduce the Birmingham community to food they might not have had before — food partners with stories, heritage and serious flavour,” says Matt Bigland, co-founder of Blend Family.

“This first wave is all about newness: new cuisines, new voices and food partners making their Birmingham debut in a space that’s built for the city and the community.”

Blend Family operates hospitality venues in Sheffield, Salford Quays and London, including its recently opened Tower Bridge Collective, a 16,000 sq ft food hall located on the ground floor of a net zero carbon development by FORGE Partnership, next to Tower Bridge.
