Shoreditch venue The Light Bar is set to relaunch under new owner Rob Star at the start of February.

Star, the founder of Electric Star Pubs, Eastern Electrics Festival, and recently launched Firestarter restaurant, has partnered with Morten Jensen, Jacob Husley, and Steve Macri to relaunch the three-storey restaurant, bar, and club space.

The venue will be given a refreshed interior, including a mezzanine bar platform, a third-floor club space called ‘The Timber Loft’, and a 10ft rotating disco ball chandelier located in the main ‘engine room’ restaurant and bar space.

New head chef Jake Aycliffe will join the 100-cover restaurant as part of the relaunch. Aycliffe, who was previously at Bethnal Green’s Rogues restaurant, where he was head chef for four years, will showcase British produce and seasonal ingredients and serve what he calls ‘plates of proper food’.

The menu will include bar bites such as rock oysters and spiced beetroot samosas; and larger plates like woven whisky-cured sea trout with crème fraîche, orange, and turnip; and The Light Bar dry-aged beef burger with red Leicester fondue, relish, and rocket.

The offer will be completed with desserts such as dark chocolate ganache with Williams pear and ginger snap; and sticky toffee pudding with miso caramel and spiced cream cheese.

An all-day brunch menu will be served on Saturdays and a ‘good ole’ roast on Sundays.

“This one is a no-brainer for me,” comments Star on the relaunch.

“I came as a punter back in the day when it was The Light, and it was always one of my favourite places to party.

“It’s an iconic Shoreditch building and I’m proud to be responsible for its next incarnation.

“We’ve got big plans for 2026 and cannot wait to get the Light Bar officially relaunched and shining bright again next month.”

Since opening in 1893 as the ‘Norton Folgate Power Station’, the multi-storey building housing The Light Bar has been through a number of incarnations, including The Light nightclub in 2000 - which hosted the seminal Secretsundaze – and in 2008 hosted a media campaign backed by famous names including Suggs and Tracey Emin which saved the three-storey building from demolition.
