Linhui Hu and Ziqi Wang have opened a Chinese restaurant on London’s Strand specialising in Lanzhou beef noodles.

Billed as the first restaurant in the capital dedicated to the dish – which originates from northwest China – Noodle Nova occupies a 400-year-old building opposite the Royal Courts of Justice.

The owners say they were inspired to launch the restaurant after missing the food of their home region while studying in London.

The hand-pulled noodles are available in eight different widths. Alongside the signature beef broth, dishes include wok-fried hand-pulled noodles, noodles with savoury minced beef sauce and noodles tossed with diced beef and radish in chilli oil.

Other options include slow-braised lamb with aromatic spices, Ningxia stir-fried sliced beef, stir-fried aubergine, peppers and tomatoes, and stir-fried courgette with vinegar sauce.

The 38-cover restaurant draws design inspiration from the Silk Road, on which Lanzhou sits, as well as Chinese blue-and-white porcelain. Features include a hand-painted mural.

Average spend is expected to be between £15 and £30 per head.
