Samyukta Nair, the restaurateur behind Jamavar, Bombay Bustle, and MiMi Mei Fair, is opening a new Thai restaurant in Mayfair.

Set to open in April, MIKO Mei Fair will occupy the ground floor of MiMi Mei Fair’s Georgian townhouse, seating up to 50 guests with a private dining room for eight.

Led by chef Soonthorn Apaipat, previously head chef of KOYN Thai, which closed last year, the Thai kitchen focuses on fire-led cooking, with the robata-style grill (a signature of KOYN Thai) taking centre stage.

The menu will include netted spring rolls; prawns pla ra; toasted rice beef tenderloin; lobster choo chee; apple wood fire Peking duck; and Penang curry. The food offer will also include dishes from KOYN such as Chiang Mai sausage; black pepper squid; pad see ew; lamb massaman curry; and yellow crab curry.

Cocktails will feature tropical and spice‑driven drinks such as sabai sabai - a fragrant blend of Mekong rum, Kaffir lime and Thai basil, lifted with soda - Thai pink spritz, golden mango margarita, and hibiscus negroni, alongside non-alcoholic options including dirty soda and akoya.

Interiors are set to combine teal and timber panelling, red leather seating, warm brass accents, and gold leaf lotus motifs. ‘The Peacock Room’ offers private dining for eight, with hand-painted chinoiserie wallpaper linking Thai and Chinese design elements.

“MIKO Mei Fair represents a natural evolution, bringing together warm, intimate dining with the focus and discipline of fire-led cooking,” says Nair, founder of Mei Fair and creative director and CEO of LSL Capital.

“It is a celebration of Thailand’s energy and generosity, expressed through layered interiors, vibrant ingredient-led dishes and heartfelt hospitality.

“At its core is Thai cuisine prepared with precision and soul, grounded in craft and designed to be shared.

“While MIKO Mei Fair and MiMi Mei Fair share the same townhouse and devotion to detail, they each have their own identity and spirit.

“We look forward to welcoming guests to experience Thailand from the heart of Mayfair, in a setting that feels both alive and deeply personal.”

MIKO Mei Fair represents Nair’s renewed venture into Thai cuisine in Mayfair, and is the second time she has introduced a Thai offer at one of her existing restaurants, following her previous concept, KOYN Thai.

KOYN opened in 2022, offering Japanese cuisine in an izakaya dining style, with KOYN Thai launching in the downstairs space in 2024.

The restaurant closed in 2025 after executive chef Rhys Cattermoul announced his move to Australia, though Nair confirmed that KOYN Thai would return at a new Mayfair location.
