Two planned 24-hour strikes by London Underground drivers set to take place next week have been called off, the RMT union has confirmed.

Drivers were due to walk out at midday on 24 and 26 March but these strikes have now been cancelled after successful talks to try to resolve a dispute over working hours.

However, further walkouts planned for April and May will currently go ahead as planned although talks are scheduled in the coming days to try to reach a negotiated settlement.

The RMT says its members are taking action over plans to compress drivers’ normal working week into four days, despite the proposals being rejected by a majority of train operators.

The development will be welcomed by the hospitality sector, which faced loss of revenue as a result of the strikes as well as challenges with staff not able to get to their place of work.

Further strikes are planned in April (21-22, 23-24) and May (19-20, 21-22).
