MEATliquor has closed more than half of its eight-strong estate following an apparent restructuring of the business.

The group has been reduced to three sites including two operating under its core MEATliquor brand in London’s Oxford Circus and East Dulwich, and its sister sports bar BLOODsports in Covent Garden.

MEATliquor restaurants in Islington, Clapham Junction and Queensway have closed, as has its only regional outpost in Brighton.

Additionally, The Dartmouth Arms pub in Forest Hill, which operated as part of the group’s estate, has shuttered.

It comes after MEATliquor founder Scott Collins confirmed last week that the group had appointed BPI Asset Advisory to assess its options amid ongoing challenges in the hospitality sector.

Commenting at the time, Collins said: “We’re in the same position as a lot of others in the industry and I’m just getting ahead of things before we’re forced to.

“On top of VAT, rates, beef and energy costs, we’ve now got a new war creating uncertainty and more tube strikes to deal with.”

When approached by MCA, Collins said he would not be making a statement on the closures at this time.

MCA has also approached BPI Asset Advisory for comment.

In its most recent accounts, Meatailer, the operator of the MEATliquor group, recorded pre-tax profit of £118,000 for the year to 30 June 2024, up from a loss of £65,000 the previous year.

The group delivered turnover of £15.2m during the period, compared to £13.6m in 2023.

Headline EBITDA was £709,000, up from £470,000, with the business recording an overall loss for the period, after tax, of -£62,000, down from -£106,000 the prior year.
