Indian restaurant group My Delhi will make its Yorkshire debut later this year for its fourth restaurant.

The group, which focuses on food from the capital of India, will open a restaurant in Leeds city centre in June, its biggest site to date.

The new restaurant will be located in a 6,000sq ft Grade II listed building at Hepper House on East Parade and will have a main dining hall, private dining room and cocktail bar.

The menu will reflect the breadth of Delhi’s food culture, from Indo-Chinese dishes such as cauliflower Manchurian to tandoor cooking rooted in Old Delhi, with breads baked fresh and kebabs cooked over charcoal in the tandoor.

Other dishes will include My Delhi’s signature nihari-style curry Emperor’s Stew, Butter Chicken 1950s, and 1947 Black Dal.

“Our cooking has always come from Delhi. That hasn’t changed. What Leeds allows us to do is present it in a more complete way, while keeping the character of the dishes intact,” says chef Gaurav Dayal.

My Delhi was founded in 2019 by brothers Elahi and Shah Amin along with partners Gaurav Dayal, Gaurav Goyal, and Neha Goyal. It opened its first restaurant in Newcastle in May 2019, followed by sites in Sunderland and Leicester.

In 2023 it was a winner in the BBC TV programme Britain’s Best Takeaway.

“Leeds felt like the right next step for us. We’ve always focused on doing things properly, and this gives us the space to take that further,” says director Elahi Shah.

“The food remains the same at its core, but the overall experience has been taken up a level. It’s a more complete version of what we’ve been building.”
