No reason has been given yet for the closures, but both venues have been forced to close our doors with immediate effect with its owners saying they will provide ‘an update as soon as the details are allowed to be made public’.
The closures follow a period of upheaval at the venues when former business partners Fin and Lorcan Spiteri announced they were leaving after five years due to “circumstances out of their control”.
Billy McCartney, the co-owner of the business’s parent company The Armada Group, told Restaurant at the time that the pair had unexpectedly given notice that they were leaving their roles with immediate effect on 14 November, a move which forced the temporary closure of the two venues.
However, both restaurants reopened at a later date in November.
Floating restaurant and bar Caravel opened in a transformed old canal boat on the Regent’s Canal in March 2022. It was led by the brothers Fin and Lorcan Spiteri, who are the sons of St John founding partner and restaurant consultant Jon Spiteri and Rochelle Canteen co-founder Melanie Arnold.
The pair had previously opened Studio Kitchen on the pontoon next door to Holborn Studios in early 2020.
The brothers have now taken on The Latimer pub in West London and reopened it following a refurbishment.
