Cornish Bakery will open sites in Wells, Witney, Shrewsbury, and Guildford this year, with more in the pipeline.

The independent bakery chain will open a site in Wells, Somerset, at the beginning of August, within a former HSBC Bank. The new store will have an open kitchen where guests can see baked goods prepared throughout the day.

This will be followed by an opening in the market town of Witney, Oxfordshire, at the end of August, followed by a new site in Shrewsbury in October and it first opening in Guildford in November.

“We’re incredibly excited to be bringing Cornish Bakery to four more outstanding locations over the next six months. Each of these places – Wells, Witney, Shrewsbury and Guilford - has its own distinct character, thriving high street and strong sense of community, making them exactly the kind of locations where our bakeries can flourish,” says Cornish Bakery managing director Mat Finch.

“We firmly believe that bakeries have an important role to play in the continued rejuvenation of the high street and as we continue to grow, we’re committed to investing in remarkable buildings, creating beautiful spaces and becoming a long-term part of the towns we join. We can’t wait to welcome visitors through the doors of these four new locations over the coming months.”

The expansion comes after Cornish Bakery recently announced a brand extension and evolution. The company has started to roll out its Rise concept bakery that made its debut in Betws-y-Coed in Conwy, North Wales, in April this year with the opening of a second site in Portsmouth’s Gunwharf Quays last month.

Rise, which the company says was created to ‘thin the boundaries’ between traditional bakeries and casual dining spaces, will be rolled out at larger sites in key locations across the UK, according to the company.
