Japanese/Peruvian restaurant Bamboo Mat will be the latest restaurant to join Canary Wharf’s burgeoning dining scene.

Following the success of their East London Stratford restaurant, owners Denis Gobjila and Victor Rosca will open an 82-cover venue at Canary Wharf’s Wood Wharf this September.

The new restaurant will have a raw bar and cocktail bar on the ground floor and robata, sushi and hot kitchen on the first floor.

The interiors are described as taking ‘guests on an immersive journey inspired by the dialogue between Japanese precision and Peruvian energy’ with natural wood, cement, warm lighting, and muted materials.

“Bamboo Mat Canary Wharf has been a long time in the making and we’re excited to unveil a completely unique design and larger site for our celebrated Nikkei offering,” says Gobjila.

WWe’ve been watching Canary Wharf turn into a real foodie destination over the last few years, and we can’t wait to bring a new dimension to its increasingly diverse restaurant scene.”

Gobjila who had previously worked for Nikkei restaurant Chotto Matte and Rosca, who has worked at Sushi Samba, Lucky Cat by Gordon Ramsay and Roka, launched Bamboo Mat in Stratford in 2022.

The restaurant will join modern Chinese restaurant brand Tattu, which is opening in Wood Wharf this winter.
