Katz opened Berber & Q, a Middle Eastern and North African grill house inspired by his travels across London, Marrakesh, Istanbul, Tel Aviv and New York, beneath the railway arches in Haggerston in 2015.
Its last service will be 31 July.
In a social media post the restaurant says: “After more than eleven unforgettable years, we’ve made the decision to close Berber & Q Grill House.
“When we opened beneath the railway arches in Haggerston back in 2015, we never imagined where the journey would take us. Over the years, the arch has been home to extraordinary teams, incredible guests and countless evenings we’ll never forget.
“To everyone who’s walked through our doors over the last eleven years, thank you. Whether you joined us once or became a regular, you’ve been part of what made this place so special.”
Katz’s other London restaurants, including Shawarma Bar in Exmouth Market, and Eastern Mediterranean restaurant Carmel in Queen’s Park remain open, as does the catering and events side of the business.
The venue at the arch has been described as ‘entering a new phase as a home for private dining, collaborations, special events and occasional fire-led feasts’.
The post adds: “For now, though, we’re simply looking forward to celebrating the week ahead with the people who’ve been part of the last eleven years.”
