The Sri Lankan restaurant group has secured the former FIKA Café site on Broad Quay for the new restaurant, which will be its second in the West Country city.
The new restaurant will be the group’s seventh site, joining its venues in Cheltenham, Oxford, Bath, Bournemouth and Reading as well as its existing Bristol restaurant on Gloucester Road.
It comes after the group was sold out of administration late last year to two members of its founding team, Praveen Thangiah and Shamil Fernando. MPS Hospitality, a connected company owned by Thangiah and Fernando, subsequently acquired the business.
“We bought the business because we care deeply about it and the people behind it, and believe in our authentic Sri Lankan food and drink,” says Fernando.
Thangiah adds: “We’re keeping the essence of The Coconut Tree the same, and our focus is on creating a more sustainable business for the future.
“Our restaurants are supported by an experienced team that has been the heart of The Coconut Tree for many years. We’d like to thank everyone for their support as we open our seventh site.”
