Smith was most recently global marketing director at Carlsberg Group in Copenhagen, where he was responsible for leading the Brooklyn Brewery brand internationally.
Founded in Bologna in 2010 by brothers Matteo and Salvatore Aloe, Berberè operates five restaurants in London, in Clapham, Kentish Town, Marylebone, Tottenham Court Road, and Westfield Stratford.
In addition it operates a large number of sites across Italy.
Smith will be responsible for leading Berberè’s continued growth in the UK, with the ambition of building a unified international brand.
“I’ve been lucky to work with brands that don’t just make great products but become part of communities and help fuel the culture around them,” says Smith.
“Berberè is exactly that kind of brand. What really attracted me to Berberè is that the brand has never treated pizza as the end of the story - there is a genuine passion for local Italian communities and a desire to share a version of the country that feels progressive, creative and wildly alive.”
