The taqueria’s last service will be on 31 October with husband and wife owners Michelle Salazar de la Rocha and Sam Napier saying they have decided to take an indefinite break from the business.
Announcing the news on social media, the pair say they are unsure of what the future holds but that they are excited about it.
“We always seem to do the opposite of what’s expected of us, but it’s worked out well so far. We don’t know what will come next but the future feels exciting,” they wrote.
The pair admit that the decision might come as a surprise but say that they have been stripping away elements of the taqueria ‘that felt like a burden’ and have spent the last few months trying to enjoy themselves.
The couple founded the business in 2019 and say they spent most of their twenties building it. “It has given us everything and has provided work and a safe space for many amazing people that have built this alongside us. We hold so many beautiful memories and this business has been a joy to be part of.
“With all that joy and satisfaction comes a huge amount of pressure and responsibility that we have carried all this time,” they add.
“Throughout these years, we’ve also gone through an immense amount of hardship in our personal lives, while simultaneously trying to run this business to the best of our ability. We feel very proud to have been very successful at it, but it has also given us a new perspective on what we want for our lives as a couple.
“We feel ready to move on and try something new.”
