A planning application has been submitted to Edinburgh City Council for the former Barburrito site on Forest Road, opposite Middle Meadow Walk.
The proposals outline plans for exterior signage, which will feature an illuminated Randy’s Donuts logo. Randy’s Donuts is considered something of an institutional brand in Los Angeles with its first site having launched in Inglewood, California, back in 1952.
Randy’s flagship location is famous for its 32ft giant rooftop donut, which has featured in numerous Hollywood films. Today the group has 30 sites across the US alongside branches in South Korea, the Philippines, Japan and Mexico.
In 2024, chief executive Mark Kelegian said the company was seeking to expand in the UK, suggesting it would likely open a ‘regional’ location before turning its focus to London.
He says: “We are thrilled to announce that Randy’s Donuts is coming to the UK. “We are confident that our unique brand and delicious doughnuts will be a hit with UK customers as it has been in Asia, the Middle East and the USA.”
