Restaurant groups are being encouraged to sign up to support homeless charity StreetSmart this winter.

The charity, which helps homeless people in the UK, is seeking more restaurants to support its cause, and in particular is looking to recruit more businesses from outside of London.

StreetSmart offers a simple way for hospitality venues to make a tangible difference adding a voluntary £1 per table to diners’ bills during November and December. Money raised helps fund vital frontline services tackling homelessness across the UK.

Last year the charity raised a total of £1,178,000 from diners at 650 leading restaurants, including Lillibet’s, Kudu and One Club Row.

StreetSmart launched 28 years ago with dining institutions St John, The River Café, Barrafina, The Wolseley and OXO Tower founding partners.

The annual campaign runs from 1 November to 31 December with businesses adding a voluntary £1 per table to each bill. Diners may decline and staff can remove the addition if requested, although StreetSmart says that less than 1% of customers ask for the donation to be removed and that 3% actually request to give more.

“Our team love being part of StreetSmart as it’s a simple way for us to give something back to the community,” say Bouchon Racine founders Haney Harris and Dave Strauss. “More importantly, our guests agree.”

The charity is fully supported by LandAid, the property industry working to end youth homelessness. LandAid’s partnership ensures that 100% of donations go directly to local charities, with no deductions.
