BrewDog is to start offering shareholders the chance to open their own craft beer bars under a franchise agreement.

The brewer announced the move in an update today laying out its “blueprint” for the future.

BrewDog will initially trial 10 UK locations with its 'Equity Punk' shareholders.

It says potential franchise locations include Ayr, North Berwick, Oban, Kirkwall, St Ives, Swansea, Northampton, Huddersfield, Newquay and Stoke on Trent and beyond.

The plans will kick off with a meeting of shareholders on 15 November.

“We now operate over 70 craft beer bars and many of the sites have been sourced by our incredible Equity Punk community,” says BrewDog.

“Now, we are offering our shareholders the chance to set up their very own craft beer outpost.

"We have had so many requests from Equity Punks looking to open their own BrewDog bar we decided to finally do a trial of up to 10 UK locations.”

The company also encouraged shareholders to join its ‘Equity for Punks Mission Control’ platform, which launched in September, in an apparent bid to avoid backlash over future marketing campaigns.

It will allow users to “review and input” the group’s plans on a bi-annual basis.

“This should help guide and shape all our future marketing efforts too and ensure we don’t stray too close to the line again,” BrewDog says.

The group is set to open further bars in Brixton and Dalston in December.

It says it is also planning to launch airside bars at Edinburgh Airport in November 2018 is eyeing a location at Manchester Airport for mid-2019, though the airport says this is not confirmed.
