Restaurant headed to a not so sunny Brighton for its latest Eats Out food and drink tour. Here's what went down on the south coast.

Lee Shipley's follow up to Circo is located in a listed building next to Brighton Pavilion and again blends Spanish and Asian influences. The North Street restaurant has a long bar and open kitchen running down the right-hand side and a pared back modern look that makes good use of the space’s original features. The the jumping off point is nearly always an established tapas dishes: gambas a la plancha, patatas bravas, albondigas and the like. The main menu is split into vegetables, fish and meat. It includes charred baby gem, pea, mint manchego (£6); salt and pepper squid with black garlic (£8); sticky pork ribs with Korean BBQ sauce and pickled chillies.

The Set

Dan Kenny's restaurant at the Artist Residence on Regency Square is one of the city's most in-demand restaurants. Recently refurbished and with a new à la carte-focused menu, The Set serves modern, seasonal food that celebrates local produce. Dishes include mackerel cured in beetroot and spices with fried onion sauce; celeriac and mushroom tart, Cracklebean yolk, herb pesto and Corra Linn; and local crown of pheasant, fried drumstick, Jerusalem artichoke tart, bacon jam, and hay mayonnaise.

Opened last year, Murmur takes its name from the flocks of starlings - murmurations - that can often be seen gliding over the skeleton of the West Pier, which it overlooks. It’s a relaxed, all-day affair from Michael Bremner of 64 Degrees and Great British Menu fame. The Scotland-born chef has ditched small plates in favour of a more traditional à la carte menu that sees brasserie classics mingle with more creative plates.

The event's sponsor Woods Foodservice is now supplying restaurants in Brighton and Hove and some other areas of East and West Sussex. Visit the websitefor more information.
