- Manchester PR agency Roland Dransfield, along with Greater Manchester Night Time Economy Adviser, Sacha Lord, and other key hospitality leaders in the city, is launching ‘#PayitForward’ in response to the escalating Covid-19 pandemic and recent Government advice to stay away from bars and restaurants. The campaign will encourage the people of Greater Manchester and further afield to buy discounted vouchers at participating restaurants between now and Easter, with a view to redeeming them from May onwards. For each voucher purchased, restaurants will make a £1 donation to Hospitality Action, the charity which offers vital assistance to all who work within hospitality in the UK. The initiative has been launched by Roland Dransfield and Sacha Lord, and is backed by Northern Restaurant and Bar (NRB), chef Aiden Byrne, Manchester Hoteliers’ Association, Manchester Hospitality Network and more.
- Four Legs based at The Compton Arms in Islington has switched to takeaway collection and delivery servicing local Islington residents starting from tonight (17 March). The chef duo has also set up a GoFundMe initiative to raise money to support their casual staff in these particularly turbulent time for these types of workers. The hope is that with some success, the campaign can be altered to support the most affected workers not just at Four Legs, but industry-wide.
- Crowdfunder has set up a pay it forward option to allow people to book meals to be redeemed in the future. Th crowdfunding platform is offering this service 100% free, so a business will receive every penny it raises. The company says the facility has been set-up very quickly in response to the growing crisis and says to ignore any references to fees throughout the set-up process, guaranteeing that they will not apply.
- Five star hotel The Hari in Belgravia has committed to supporting its friends and neighbours in the local community by extending a helping hand to those who are in need at this time. It says this could be through either collecting and delivering shopping from the local supermarket, offering the opportunity for a friendly phone call, collecting urgent supplies from the pharmacy or posting mail.
