Greene King becomes UK's largest pub takeaway business following delivery roll out
Greene King has rolled out its ‘pub grub’ delivery and takeaway service to its entire food-led managed estate.

The move, which sees the pubco and brewer become the UK's largest pub takeaway business, follows successful regional trials of takeaway and delivery from selected Greene King pubs since June.

It was originally piloted from a number of sites in its London-based Metropolitan Pub Company division back in May.

The roll out means that 1,400 of a possible 1,700 reopened food-led Greene King sites will now provide a takeaway service.

Approximately 400 of those pubs will also offer home delivery via Deliveroo and Just Eat.

All sites offering takeaway will pass on the government’s VAT reduction, giving consumers a full 20% discount on their order.

Takeaway orders can be made via the Greene King app or by phone, with pub classics including fish and chips, stake and ale pie, and hunter’s chicken featuring on the menu.

A range of beers, wines and soft drinks is also available for takeaway.

"We are thrilled to offer this added service to our customers who we know have missed pub food during lockdown,” says Matt Todd, group procurement and supply chain director.

“Our purchasing habits have changed over the last few months and while nothing quite replicates the experience of being with friends and family in a pub setting, for many customers, particularly if they have been shielding, it may take time to build confidence to return to the pub.

“By offering takeaway pub food and drinks across the majority of our estate, customers will have the choice of visiting their local pub as before or enjoying the pub experience at home.”
