Franco/East Asian Mayfair restaurant Bar des Prés has turned its downstairs seating area into a ‘destination lounge’ that offers an extensive menu of French wine by the glass alongside a menu of light bites.

The new space has been conceived by Parisian designer Dion et Arles and is inspired by 1950s Paris.

The Albemarle Street restaurant was opened in the space that was once home to Indian Accent last summer by high profile French chef Cyril Lignac.

“The opening of the lounge is very close to my heart. London has always felt like a home away from home, its energy and vibrant culture inspiring me from the moment I set foot in the capital,” he says.

“Seeing my vision for a destination French wine bar come to life is incredibly rewarding, and I hope to bring some of that Parisian magic to London’s drinking scene.”

The newly opened downstairs of Bar des Prés will offer 20 wines by the glass with prices starting at £9.

There is also a cocktail menu that includes The Mayfair Sour (Talisker 10 whisky, coconut, ginger, lemon, tonka tincture and egg white).

Dishes available will include squid tempura with wasabi cream and wakumé crisps; miso caramelised green asparagus with sesame seeds; and Lignac’s signature ‘crunch’ crab and avocado galette and Madras curry.

There will also be a programme of ‘carefully considered’ entertainment curated by Parisian music collective SPECTRE.
