Daily news website BigHospitality has today (28 March) unveiled its new identity as Restaurant – which is more than a nod to the popular Restaurant magazine loved by chefs and restaurateurs across the UK.

The new brand reflects the website and daily newsletter’s focus on the UK restaurant sector, offering insight, analysis, comment, news and features across the casual dining, fine dining, QSR and street food sectors of the industry. It will continue to provide readers with free daily breaking news as well as in-depth articles and insight into the key issues and people of the UK restaurant world.

Launched in 2001, Restaurant magazine and its website BigHospitality are the voice of the restaurant sector and the people who work in it. For two decades, it has run numerous exclusive interviews and features with some of the UK’s top chefs and restaurant businesses and launched The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, which continues to be run by brand owner William Reed. The rebrand will mark the start of several exciting projects that meet the needs of restaurateurs and chefs.

Restaurant magazine ceased printed publication in 2020 but has continued to publish information online in the form of daily news as well as features, business profiles and interviews on its website BigHospitality as well as operating its established industry awards: The National Restaurant Awards and the R200 Awards.

“Having worked on Restaurant magazine since 2008 and been its editor for almost a decade, it’s a joy to be at the helm as we take this brand into a new exciting digital future, bringing lively and informative coverage of the UK restaurant world,” says Restaurant editor Stefan Chomka.

“Under the Restaurant brand, we will continue to provide the news and features for which we are known but with an even greater focus on the entire restaurant sector.”

Chris Lowe, group director of the hospitality and manufacturing brands at William Reed, adds: “The UK restaurant scene is so vibrant and eclectic – one that is the envy of the world. The world’s best chefs and owners flock to these shores to operate and seek inspiration. We know the majority of our readers are these chefs and owners, and those who aspire to be. To service our readers’ needs better, we want to make everything we write, speak and plan, about these businesses and their people.”

Regarding a move away from content for pubs and bars, Lowe adds: “We are not forgetting the rest of hospitality, as our sister title, The Morning Advertiser has been focused on providing content for the pub and bar sector. It is the market leader and has been for more than 200 years.

“It makes sense for us and the hospitality trade for BigHospitality to be about all things restaurants and therefore to rebrand as ‘Restaurant’.  It also aligns with our fantastic events portfolio including the National Restaurant Awards, R200 and, of course, The Restaurant Show.
