Nepalese restaurant Eat Momo to launch in Borough Yards later this summer
Billed as a canteen and ‘momo factory’, Eat Momo will be part of the Borough Yards development and will feature a grab-and-go hatch. The eponymous steamed dumplings will be prepared in an open kitchen drawing inspiration from regional recipes found across Nepal, chicken, pork (an Eastern Nepali favourite), and beef Momo will be flavoured with coriander and spices, while vegetable Momo will be flavoured with ginger. The momo will be served with tomato chutney and spicy chilli pickle for dipping. A playlist of traditional Nepalese folk songs, curated by their father, Drip Chamling, will accompany the dining experience. The restaurant’s interior is a collaboration between architect Roberta Colombo and the Chamling sisters. Located at the entrance to Stone Cutters Lane beneath the historic railway arches, it embodies their values of ‘minimalism and simplicity, providing a dynamic contrast to its vibrant location in Borough Yards’. Design features will include polished concrete floors, Formica tables, simple wooden stools and small riverside terrace.“We have such vivid memories of making momo with our family over the years - and we still continue to make memories while preparing these delicious morsels,” the pair say. “Unlike other Asian dumplings, in Nepal, Momo are the star of the meal. The brilliance of the dish lies in its simplicity. They represent home comforts - and we aim to bring that love and care of momo-making to Borough Yards.”
