According to the Westminster Council website, Union Street Café Limited – a company associated with the Gordon Ramsay empire – has successfully applied for a premises licence transfer for the 43 Upper Brook Street restaurant.
The designated premises supervisor named on the application is industry front of house legend Silvano Giraldin, who oversaw front of house at Le Gavroche for over 30 years.
There is industry speculation that former Restaurant Gordon Ramsay chef patron Matt Abé will lead the kitchen.
It will be a homecoming of sorts for Gordon Ramsay, with the chef having cooked at the restaurant in 1989 in his early twenties under then chef patron Albert Roux.
The purchase will be the latest in a string of major acquisitions for the group.
Earlier this month, Gordon Ramsay Restaurants launched an enormous multifaceted restaurant project in The City of London.
Le Gavroche closed in January 2024 after 56 years with chef patron Michel Roux Jr saying at the time that he was looking for a better work/life balance without the daily demands of a busy Michelin-starred restaurant.
Originally opened in 1967 by brothers Albert and Michel Roux Sr, Le Gavroche was the first restaurant in the UK to gain one, two and three Michelin stars (it lost its third in 1993) and was renowned for its classic French haute cuisine.
The restaurant moved to its current location on Upper Brook Street in Mayfair in 1981.
The restaurant was taken over by Michel Roux Jr, son of Albert Roux, in 1991, who continued to lead the restaurant until its closure.
Luxury residence operator Grand Residence Club by Marriott (GRC) appointed leisure property specialist Davis Coffer Lyons to source a new tenant for the Mayfair restaurant a month later.
*This story was updated on 13 February removing a suggestion that Gordon Ramsay Restaurants may be acquiring the Le Gavroche name. It has since been confirmed by Michel Roux Jr that this is not the case.
