Set to open in the autumn, Blacklock Birmingham will take over the ground floor of St Philip’s House, which overlooks Cathedral Square on St Philip’s Place.
The 100-cover restaurant will serve a range of chops and steaks alongside a drinks offering that will focus on cocktails.
News of Blacklock’s expansion to Birmigham comes after the group, which opened its first restaurant in Soho in 2015 and now has a five-strong estate in the capital, made its regional debut last year in Manchester.
“10 years on from that shoestring conversion of an old Soho basement, we’re very excited to be embarking on the restoration of one of the most beautiful buildings in Birmingham,” says Blacklock founder Gordon Ker, who continues to lead the business.
“The city’s vibrant culture and thriving local food scene has meant we’ve always wanted to call it home.
“We’ve looked high and low for the perfect spot and St Philip’s House has such a rich history with plenty of stories to tell and we’re looking forward to bringing it back to life, becoming part of the local community and filling the restaurant with plenty of happy guests.”
In November last year Restaurant reported that Business Growth Fund (BGF) had acquired a minority stake in Blacklock.
At the time Blacklock said BGF’s expertise in supporting leading British brands within the sector and further afield would help it ‘continue its ongoing steady and sustainable growth’.
