Brilliant Restaurant was launched in 1975 by Dipna’s father Gulu, who remains heavily involved with the 200-cover Western Road site.
One of the most prominent restaurants in Southall - which is often referred to as Little Punjab or Little India - Brilliant Restaurant offers Punjabi cuisine with some Kenyan influences.
Brilliant Restaurant’s last service will be 4 April. A special set menu of the restaurant’s signature dishes will be offered that will include masala chicken, karahi gosht and samosa chaat.
“It may be the end of an era for Brilliant Southall, but after 50 years, the Brilliant brand has gained an iconic status in Indian dining, and we have to ensure that it is constantly evolving to both reflect the preferences of diners, and the food I love to eat, so there’s something delicious for everyone,” says Dipna, who as well as being a restaurateur is a cookbook author and TV chef.
Dipna will retain a presence in Southall with her previously announced new venture Brilliant Gastro set to launch a week or so after Brilliant Restaurant closes.
Located in the West London district’s The Green Quarter Development, the new restaurant will combine Anand’s Punjabi roots with modern influences and twists on Western classics.
Dipna is also behind Dipna Anand Kitchen and Bar at Unity Place in Milton Keynes (which is run in collaboration with contract caterer Compass Group) and also runs the kitchen at her local village pub, The Plough in Norwood Green, where she brings ‘a fresh twist to classic British pub fare’.
