Highly-rated Edinburgh restaurant Fhior will close its doors this June after nearly seven years of trading.

Run by husband-and-wife team Scott and Laura Smith, the Broughton-based restaurant has attracted widespread praise from national critics, including Marina O’Loughlin and the late AA Gill.

Fhior is listed in both The Good Food Guide and the Michelin Guide, and has been featured in Restaurant magazine’s list of the UK’s top 100 places to eat.

Celebrated for its creative use of Scottish produce, the restaurant offers a £115 evening tasting menu alongside an à la carte option.

Following the closure, Scott Smith plans to launch a consultancy business, Blank Plate Creative.

The chef says that while Fhior may “pop up again” in the future, it will not return in its current form.

“After nearly seven incredible years, we’ve made the deeply difficult decision to bring Fhior to a close,” Scott says. “Fhior has meant the world to us—not just as a restaurant, but as a place where we’ve met lifelong friends, shared unforgettable moments, and worked with some of the most passionate, generous people we could ever have hoped to cross paths with. From our dedicated team past and present, to our wonderful regulars, guests, and suppliers—you’ve helped make Fhior a place of purpose and genuine connection. We are so incredibly grateful.”

He added that the decision was driven by a number of personal and practical reasons, including the arrival of the couple’s second child and a desire to spend more time with their growing family.

“While the restaurant has achieved so much, the cost of doing things the right way in a very difficult hospitality climate has taken its toll,” he said. “Rather than compromise what Fhior stands for, we’ve chosen to close on our own terms—with intention, and with the same care and integrity that defined every service.”

The couple said they have already helped all their team members secure new roles.

Fhior’s final service will take place on 1 June
