Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons will close for 18 months from January next year as its founder Raymond Blanc transitions to an ambassadorial role.

The Belmond-owned Oxfordshire hotel and restaurant is scheduled to reopen in summer 2027 following an extensive redevelopment.

Announcing the news on Instagram, the two-Michelin-starred property thanked its guests for their ‘continuous loyalty and unwavering support’ over the past 41 years.

The “strategic redevelopment” will celebrate Le Manoir’s philosophy of garden gastronomy, ensuring the hotel “remains at the forefront of luxury British hospitality for many more decades”.

“Le Manoir has been the canvas of my life’s work, a sanctuary where passion, excellence, and beauty have come to life every single day for over four decades,” Blanc says.

“Together with my extraordinary team, we have built something truly timeless. The redevelopment will allow Le Manoir to evolve for the future, to meet the needs of the modern guest while staying true to its soul and values. It is not simply a renovation, but a reinvestment in sustainability, in creativity, and in the spirit of excellence that has defined us.

“As we begin this transformation, my role too will evolve. I remain deeply committed to guiding and nurturing the spirit of Le Manoir, as its founder and lifetime ambassador, with the same love and vision that have shaped it since the very beginning.”

According to the Oxford Mail, the period of closure will result in mass redundancies at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons.

According to a source at the property, as many as 150 jobs could be impacted.

Located near Oxford in the village of Great Milton, Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons is among the UK’s most famous country house hotels.

Some of the UK’s best known and most successful chefs have passed through its kitchens including Marco Pierre White, Michael Caines, John Burton-Race, Ollie Dabbous and Robin Gill.

The kitchen is currently overseen by Luke Selby, who returned to the hotel in 2022 having started his career there in 2009.

Blanc founded the restaurant in 1984 attracting two Michelin stars just a few months after launch.

Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons is a regular on Restaurant’s list of the top 100 places to eat in the UK.
