Meat-free Indian restaurant group Namaste Village has chosen Oxford for its sixth site.

Located opposite Malmaison in the city’s Castle development, the new restaurant joins Namaste Village sites in Norwich, Twickenham, Southend-on-Sea, Cambridge and Islington.

Celebrating “heritage flavours”, Namaste Village specialises in vegetarian and vegan food, drawing on influences from across India.

Dishes at the Oxford site will include Mumbai-style samosas; dahi puri; Indo-Chinese-style cauliflower fritters; jackfruit biryani; and a jalfrezi curry made with plant-based ‘chicken’ chunks.

“Bringing Namaste Village to Oxford is a dream come true. As passionate advocates of a vegetarian and vegan lifestyle, we’re honoured to join the city’s rich food scene and showcase how vibrant and satisfying plant-based Indian cuisine can be,” say founders Vijay Jetani and Dalsukh Jetani.

“We also hope to soon bring our Namaste Cookery School to Oxford, so these flavours and values can be shared beyond the restaurant and into people’s homes and daily lives.”

Namaste Village – which opened its first restaurant in Norwich in 2016 – says further sites “are on the horizon for 2025 and beyond.”
