London pizza group Berberè will make its shopping centre debut next month with a new pizzeria at Westfield Stratford City.

Located in East London mall’s The Street area, the 88-cover restaurant joins existing Berberè sites in Clapham, Kentish Town, Tottenham Court Road and, most recently, Marylebone.

In addition to its five London restaurants, Berberè operates 21 sites across Italy, in cities including Bologna, Florence, Milan, Rome, Turin and Verona.

The design of the Westfield site, created in partnership with Atelier Ochre, will take inspiration from converted workshops and factory spaces.

A 7.5-metre arched shopfront referencing Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele will set the tone, echoed by an open pergola.

Inside, the layout will flow from the pizza oven to the bar and is designed to “celebrate the craft and energy of pizza-making”.

Patterns and textures will evoke classic Italian interiors, from red marble pinwheel floors and stack-bond kitchen tiles to a timber ceiling grid.

A palette of sun-bleached whites, pistachio greens and dusty reds will be lifted by stainless steel and reclaimed lighting, creating what the designers describe as a “lived-in yet refined” atmosphere.

Founded in Bologna in 2010 by Calabrian brothers Matteo and Salvatore Aloe (pictured above, Berberè is currently ranked the world’s sixth best artisan pizzeria by 50 Top Pizza.

The pair initially entered the UK market in partnership with ASK Italian-owner Azzurri Group in 2016 to launch Radio Alice.

But in 2020, the Aloe brothers bought a controlling stake in the joint venture and converted the existing Radio Alice sites into Berberè pizzerias, starting with the Clapham location.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with such an esteemed global brand as part of our ongoing expansion strategy.” the Aloe brother say.

“The past year has seen us more than double our London portfolio, and we look forward to bringing our artisan pizzas to the cultural hub that is Stratford—welcoming a new audience of shoppers and locals alike to Berberè.”

Chris Betts, general manager at Westfield Stratford City, added: “Berberè’s arrival at The Street strengthens Westfield Stratford City’s reputation as a destination for authentic, high-quality casual dining. Their focus on artisanal pizza and thoughtful design offers a distinctive experience, and we look forward to visitors enjoying what they have to offer.”
